Computer Tips
From: Kober 75831
Contrary to all information
published to date, FASTLOAD most
certainly can be RESET without
turning the computer off and back on.
Here's all that is necessary:
Enter this as one line....
POKE770,106:POKE771,223
FASTLOAD 'hooks in' to BASIC by
diverting the 'IMAIN' vector to
itself. Therefore, switching FASTLOAD
in or out is done by simply changing
these vectors to point to FASTLOAD,
or normal BASIC.
The IMAIN vector is located at
770 ($0302) and 771 ($0303).

For the last few months Commodore
again offers help to Commodore users
by calling 1-800-247-9000. I called
them and about three days later
received a short 3-line program to
prevent the banging of the read/write
head when loading protected software
or formatting a disk. This takes care
of the main cause leading to alignment
problems. I put the program on a disk
and it loads in a second or so and
then just type run and then load or
format.
I have never had a breakdown in
my Commodore. I atribute that to very
good cooling. I have added rubber
feet to extend the clearance on the
bottom of the C-64, 1541, and power
supply so that there is almost an inch
of clear space underneath each. The
vents now can do what they were
intended to do. I added small quiet
ETRI fans one on top of the 1541 and
another cooling the power supply. The
C-64 and 1541 are almost cold to the
touch after being on for a couple of
hours and the power supply is just
warm instead of hot without added
circulation and cooling.
The Diskette Drive Cleaning Kit is
a good idea as are dust covers for
your equipment for prevention of
future problems.

I have never been able to make a
hard-copy of the contents map. I
always got syntax error in line 2050.
Tonight I sat down and changed line
2050 as follows:
> 2050 PRINT#4,CHR$(16)"20";IN$(CP)
I now can print the contents map with
no trouble. I have a MPS 801 printer.
